It has been announced that Prince Philip’s funeral will begin at 3pm next Saturday. It will begin with a minute’s silence at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle and then include an eight minute ceremonial procession.
As a result, the EFL fixtures in England at that time will be rearranged. “As a mark of respect, EFL matches scheduled for 3pm on Saturday 17 April will be moved to avoid a clash with the funeral of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh”, the EFL confirmed.
However, no new date or kick-off time has been announced for the games. The Premier League have said they will “liase with the Palace, Government and relevant authorities”, but no decision has been made on any of their fixtures.
The only game in the top flight that is scheduled to clash with the funeral is between Wolves and Sheffield United.
