Manchester United have finally managed to get past the semi-final stage under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and made it to the final of the Europa League despite a 3-2 defeat at the hands of AS Roma in the second leg of their tie.
The Serie A club deserve a lot of credit for their performance on the night though and they definitely gave it their all in the face of a 6-2 deficit to overcome from the first leg.
And to be honest, they were very unlucky to pick up three injuries in the very first half of the first leg. Otherwise, who knows how this tie would have played out.
Ultimately though, the Red Devils did what they needed to do on the night to advance to the final of the competition. A brace from Edinson Cavani and David de Gea’s heroics in goal were enough.
Here’s how we rated the Manchester United players as they booked their place in the Europa League final despite a 3-2 defeat vs AS Roma in the second leg of their semi-final tie:

Now, the focus will turn towards the final as the club have chance to finally lift some silverware under Solskjaer. And in many ways, that will be proof of the progress that the team have shown over the past year or so.
In the final, they will face Unai Emery’s Villarreal side, who came out with a 2-1 aggregate win over Arsenal in their semi-final tie. Villarreal are currently sitting at 6th in La Liga.
Emery has some brilliant history in the Europa League though. This will be his fifth time in the final and he has already won it thrice during his time at Sevilla. Thus, it is safe to say it won’t be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination.
