Liverpool duo Xherdan Shaqiri and Thiago Alcantara locked horns as their Switzerland and Spain battled it out for a place in the semi-finals of this summer’s European Championships on Friday.

However, after the game, as Vargas was confined to tears for his miss, Thiago went over to console the forward.
The gesture was quickly noticed by fans on Twitter, who had nothing but praise for the midfielder.

A lovely gesture by Thiago, well played!
