Here is todays COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through May 18.
Vaccination Progress:

• Doses delivered: About 3.9 million.
• Doses administered: Nearly 3.41 million.
• Received at least one shot: Nearly 1.82 million or 64.9% of San Diegans 12 and older.
• Fully vaccinated: More than 1.38 million or 49.3%.
• The goal: fully vaccinate 75% of San Diego County residents 12 and older or 2,101,936 people.
• To date, 86.6% of the goal population has received at least one vaccine and 65.7% are fully vaccinated.

State Metrics:

• San Diego Countys state-calculated, adjusted case rate is currently 3.4 cases per 100,000 residents.
• The testing positivity percentage is 1.6%.
• The health equity metric is 2.1%.
• CDPH assesses counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25.

Community Setting Outbreaks:

• Six new community outbreaks were confirmed May 18.
• Two of the outbreaks were in grocery settings, two were in faith-based agency settings, one was in a college/university setting and one was in a daycare/preschool/childcare setting.
• In the past seven days (May 12 through May 18), 13 community outbreaks were confirmed.
• The community outbreaks trigger is seven or more in seven days.

Testing:

• 12,564 tests were reported to the County on May 18, and the percentage of new positive cases was 1%.
• The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 1.4%. Target is less than 8.0%.
• The 7-day, daily average of tests is 11,262.

Cases, Hospitalizations and ICU Admissions:

• 91 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on May 18. The regions total is now 279,344.
• 15,382 or 5.5% of all cases have required hospitalization.
• 1,698 or 0.6% of all cases and 11% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

• Four new COVID-19 deaths were reported on May 18. The regions total is 3,746.
• Four men died between July 2, 2020 and May 17, 2021.
• The death from 2020 and deaths in January and February of 2021 were just added to the list after a rigorous review of death certificates that were incorrect or incomplete and required the analysis of the patients medical records to determine if they were COVID-19 deaths.
• One of the deceased was in his mid-80s; one was in his mid-70s and two were in their early 70s.
• Three of the four had underlying medical conditions.
